Want to rename your Wi-Fi from the default to something more personal — like your business name, your house, or just something easier to remember? The Advanced option in the password change screen lets you do it.
Network name (SSID) changes happen on the Wi-Fi password screen — the same place where you change passwords.
From the home screen, tap Change Wi-Fi. You'll see fields for the new password, but the network name field is hidden by default. Look for the small Advanced (change network name) link with a ▸ arrow.
Tap Advanced (change network name). The arrow rotates to ▾ and a new field appears: New network name (SSID).
Type the name you want. Some good naming patterns:
• DishNet-Daniel — the default style, your first name
• DishNet-Cinema-Cafe — for a business location
• Akol-Family — for a family home
• Lodge-Guest-WiFi — if you want guests to find it easily
Notice the warning: "Changing the name means every device must reconnect." This is important — read on for what to expect.
You can change the SSID alone or change the SSID and the password at the same time. Either way, fill in the password fields too — the form requires them. If you don't want to change the password, just type the existing one.
Tap Change password. Within ~30 seconds:
1. The old network name disappears from every device's Wi-Fi list
2. The new network name appears
3. Every connected device gets disconnected. Phones, laptops, smart TVs, IoT — everything has to reconnect.
4. On each device, find the new name and enter the password again
If your password is unchanged, devices that remember their old password will still need you to manually reconnect to the new network name — but the password they enter is the same one as before.
